Window Bird Feeders
Watch your birds eat in every season
If you love to watch birds at a feeder, then you probably wish that you could see them better and watch them interact with each other. Even a bird feeder hanging in front of a window doesn't always offer you a good view of your feathered visitors. Window feeders allow you to have an up-close and personal view of birds feeding and acting naturally. It's also a great way to get some good photographs of your feathered friends.
You can choose from two different styles of window feeders: windowsill feeders or suction-cup window feeders.
Windowsill feeders sit on your windowsill and are often accessible from both sides of the window, which allows the birdwatcher to add more seed any time he or she feels like it without going outside. This is great if you live on a high floor of an apartment building or can't go outside to feed the birds for any reason. The feeders have a one-way mirror so that you can watch the birds without them seeing you and getting scared. They're basically souped-up tray feeders with extra features. You can buy a windowsill feeder for every type of window, including bay windows. The feeder can be installed easily in a double-hung window in the same way as a window air conditioner, as long as it's properly fitted into the windowsill.
Suction-cup window feeders are plastic feeders that suction to the glass in your window. The feeder can easily slide off the suction cups for easy filling and cleaning, or can be filled from the outside. This makes them a great gift for someone who lives in an apartment and has a balcony or a porch, or can easily access their window. Obviously clear plastic is best for viewing purposes, but if you're going to attract hummingbirds, you need to have a little red on the feeder. You can hang a few different types on several windows to view birds from every room in your house.
You will be paying a pretty penny for these feeders, depending on where you buy them and how many features they have, but if you really love to birdwatch, your close-up view of your feathered friends will be priceless.
As always, you will have to maintain your feeders to make sure that they're clean, full of food and safe from pests and predators. Window feeders are often hit with rain and snow, making them more susceptible to mold and mildew, so you will have to ensure that you are cleaning them properly. Keep your feathered friends healthy by making sure your feeders are immaculate.
